Health Corner.

1.Salt–If you eat too much salt, the extra water

stored in your body, raises your blood pressure.

The higher your blood pressure, the greater the

strain on your heart, arteries, kidneys and brain.

This can lead to heart attacks, strokes, dementia

and kidney disease.

Salt is bad for the bone.Salt can pose a greater

obstacle to a sturdy skeleton.

Eat food rich in potassium, since they will help

the kidneys to flush out excess salt.

Foods that people with CKD(Chronic Kidney Disease)

should limit or avoid include–nuts, beans, potatoes,

bananas,dairy products, avacados, salty foods, fast foods

bran and whole grains, honeydew, tomatoes,vegetable juices.

2.Jaggery or gur is obtained by boiling raw,concentrated

sugarcane juice till it solidifies. The jaggery is a good

source of iron and vitamin C. Other than that, it contains

phosphorus,magnesium, potassium etc.

The glycemic index of honey, jaggery and white sugar

is same and it can cause an increase in blood sugar level.
